Final Project

My final piece is about how we are destroying the environment. But instead of shooing landfills and starving children I decided to show it threw more of a pop culture effect. Things like makeup, cell phones, keeping lights on, it all helps us in our daily tasks but it also is hurting the environment. Changing one bad environmentally bad hobbit can help the carbon footprint that you admit, an reduce the pollution that is put out in the air. It only takes unplugging  your cell phone charger when your not using it to make a difference.

I, being a photographer played with color more when i was taking the film and photos. But even with doing that I did still go in and play with the color a bit. I played with sound a lot, enhancing sounds and adding sounds that might not have been there in the first place. I also played with how long a clip was and the timing of the clips.

The two pictures I made in Photoshop to go with the video didn’t come out how I would have liked them to. The first picture I love. I love the color. I played with the color and used the dodge, burn and sponge tool to enhance the picture. The second one looked good before I printed it. It was suppose to look like fire but instead it looks funky. I played with the color as well on this one and the dodge and burn tool.

Ideation Project 4

Concept: I haven’t decided on a concept yet. I have a few ideas. First one was the idea of emotion by using moving objects. I have video of a roller coaster and being in a car. If I go with this one I want it to feel gloomy and sad. But then on then the feeling of happiness and thrill. I started this in lass last week and I really like how’s it’s come out so far. My only issue is defining it as fine art.

My second idea was to take point of view videos of the homeless. Making a video of what the homeless do and see and then in the end, me being the homeless on the corner begging for food. If I did this I would play with sound a lot. Instead of having the video sound I would either want to, make me own sounds to go with it or play with music as a sound effect.

These two ideas are just the beginning of my thoughts. I’m not 100% sure that they are what I want to use but they are the best ones I have come up with so far. I went ahead over the week and carried my camera with me to get videos to help me come up with a good idea. I think I am struggling with the idea of what a fine art video is and what a non fine art video is.

Formal Elements: I want to play with sound of course. I think that sound goes hand in hand with the video. I don’t want my whole piece to just have background nose.

Another formal element that I want to do is the idea of points of view. What angles I can get out of the camera. The points of views from others or from looking at some/something directly think switching between these two is important in flimaking.

Line and shape of course aloes play a major part in the video. Having interesting focal points will be important and also the idea of a horizon line. This can also play a part in the point of views.

Last color. I don’t have a set plan for color yet. I know I do want to play with color. I think blurring and making color fade in and out will be in the video. If I where to chose a color I would say blue would be one I would like to use.

Self critique project 3

The concept of the work is the thought of lonely ness and being in a dream like state. I took the piece and decided to complement it in the animation other than trying to contrast against it. I choice to use this piece as my animation because the idea of being the last human on earth is very interesting to me. If you where the last human on earth you could have a hay day. Get anything you wanted. But you also had the issue of all the waste humans left behind killing you off such as the nuclear power plants having a melt down.

My Jstor article was about loneliness in a different mind set. It talked about having someone and losing that person. I thought it fit with the work of art because if you did suddenly became the last human on earth than you would have the pang of knowing what it felt like to be one in one billion people. Sure, losing all the drama and stress is amazing at first but loneliness can and will slowly kill you. I chose to only use a few colors. The original black and white in the piece, yellow and blue. I kept the black and white because I didn’t want to destruct the audience away from the beauty of the original art piece. I chose blue because blue reminds us of sadness. And I chose yellow for the lighting strike because it represents lighting basically. I honestly had no idea what to do for text. The text represents the end of the animation. I had tried hawing words for sound effects but I felt like it didn’t flow well with the animation. The text I thought was the toughest part.

Article and Artist images

For my article I found a poem about being alone.

Project 3 Ideation

Concept: The concept of the piece that I chose to work with was the idea of being the last person on earth. I do not plan on changing this concept but making it more defined. What would it be like as the last person on earth? How long would it take before you ran out of resources to supply yourself? How would lonesomeness consume you?

Medium: Flash animation and photo shop. I think the original piece is done ins charcoal pastel.

Design Elements: I want to play with line and shapes in this piece. Making things bigger through the animation or smaller and how things are placed. Also i want to add a little color but I would like to keep 80% or more of the piece in black and white. I will be adding somethings of my own so that you can really feel the concept as the video unfolds.

Project Two Artist Statement

The series of images I used are about how beauty can be found in someone’s eyes. It’s been the romantic punch line of centuries and will be so for years to come. You can learn so much about a person through their eyes, if they’re lying or telling the truth, or how much they have suffered through their life. For me personally, since I’m vision impaired, eyes are the one thing that I never really found important. People always say that the best thing to do darning a public speech is to make eye contact with each person in the room. But for someone who can’t see other’s eyes clearly at a far away distance, eyes never seemed important to make contact with. I did eyes because I wanted to show the importance of how our eyes tell about someone. Even if I can’t see them I wanted to make sure the audience could in this piece. Each face that the eyes belong to tell a story about that person, weather it be innocents of a baby or the immaturity of a teenager to the life story of an old man, our eyes can tell a lot about us.

The leaves in the piece represent natural beauty. Leafs are sorta like the eyes of Mother Nature. They’re always around us and change with the seasons Leafs start out strong and green during the summer, being there for bug life to feed off of. But by the time the winter comes along they turn colors, becoming older. You can see a leafs life story in the color of the leaf. The redder means its time is almost up, more yellow and it is just starting to mature. But by the time old man winter comes along, the leafs fall into mush. Then they return, reborn if you will in the, spring. Leafs are always around us. Trees need leafs to survive and we need trees to live.

My thought process was that some of the most beautiful things we will see in our life are eyes. Weather it be from friends or family. Also everything associated with eyes are beautiful such as crows feet. I chose the angles for the images by the comfort of the person who I was taking a picture of. It’s not a great idea to have a camera in front of newborns eyes. I honestly go scared of blinding someone with an accident press of the flash bottom on my camera. So instead of make the images all eyes I let the audience see some of these people’s faces/ I think this helped me in the long run because you got more sense of their story threw the parts of body language that you could see. When I got the leafs I decided that I wanted to keep that theme of not being so close to the leaf. This way the flow of the piece stayed the same. Though I do wish I had taken better images of the leafs where you could see the first one is suppose to be the green and fresh summer leaf, the second image is a transition of greens to yellows, and the last image is of a crumbling leaf. I also wanted the color in the piece to not drown out the eyes but make them pop out more to the audience. The other reason for the color was so that the piece didn’t become to “excited.” I wanted it to make the piece come together than make someone feel like the piece is angry.

Some formal elements of design I used in my piece where line and shape. The line and shape of each image and how they where placed matters on how the eye moves across the piece making a flow from the baby all the way to my grandpa. This also helps show a sense of time, young to old. I also created a focual point with the last image of the leaf. Your eye is drawn to that one the most. I did go in and play with color in each image, using a moncromtic sceme in all images though keeping both sets of images in the same color. I made sure to go and a play with the shading of lights and darks using the burn and dodge tool. I smudged some of the backgrounds in a few images because they’re where either other people in the background that needed to be removed or because the background looked beter with a blurred background.
